First of all – thanks for selling our products.
About the faulty DC stones, I am truly sorry to learn about your negative experiences and I really understand if you’re reluctant to continue and sell these stones.
In general, our warranty records for knives are less than 0,1 %.
For DC stones, we have a warranty record of around 1 %. We sell around 20.000 stones every year.
I think the warranty claims for these DC stones are too high and really not along with our reputation of being a high quality manufacturer.
We are making the DC stones in China, not because they are cheap but because we have found the best skill and experience there. Together with our sub-contractor we try to improve our sharpening tools all the time, trying to see what will work and what won’t. I have an experience in selling sharpening stones which is 28 years long and when I develop new sharpening tools, I try to do my best. I also try to make them even better from time to time.
The first ceramic stone, released at the beginning of this century, was too fine for bringing a good sharpening result. Since then, we have tried to find a formula which is as perfect as possible and, from July this year, we started to distribute the new (dark grey, all flat ceramic stone) DC4 version which to my opinion is the perfect combination of a ceramic and a diamond coated stone.
Still, unexpectedly, we now find that the surface of the new ceramic stone is absorbing the glue too much, resulting in a too small joint area. We tested this matter before the product was released but found no problems. Still, we hear from disappointed customers and dealers that the stones fall apart! My disappointment is as large as yours!
About bumps on the ceramic surface, this is from the production method. We have noticed a few faulty samples but did not see any problems, we though they worked OK. The customers had another opinion! And they are right, it must not be any bumps on a sharpening surface! These stones were sold about a year ago but I understand that there are a number “out there” which isn’t 100 % perfect.
Still, every DC stone is made one by one and is inspected, one by one. Only experienced workers are allowed to make our DC stones.
What will happen is that we will discontinue to use glue and switch to double adhesive 3M tape. We have used this tape for long and experience no problems using that extremely tough and strong tape. With the new ceramic stone and the new tape, I believe that we have a well working, attractive sharpening tool at a nice price.
We often receive direct inquiries from end-users and, when it comes to warranty matters, we always advise them to return the faulty product to his dealer, that should by far be the safest, fastest and cheapest way for the customer. We also point out the possibility to return the faulty product to our agent or, he is as well free to return the product directly to us. We always try to comfort our customers and of course, we follow the Consumer’s Act of Purchase. However, it’s not enough to write an angry message about a poor product, the customer needs to return the faulty product.
I hope this message will explain a few things and of course, never hesitate to get in touch with us whenever you wish.
Best regards
