Une hache viking: perso, j'adore...
"This was actually practice for a more modern style wood axe that I will be making for a customer using a similar method but with mild steel and high carbon. But this was done with a big slab of wagon wheel wrought iron wrap welded around a drift I forged. The bit is 1084 and welded nicely. The shape is almost an exact copy of a Viking age bearded war axe... which were used on horseback and for throwing. And I must say.… I've been having a hell of a time throwing this thing. It is just lovely. A lot of the hawks I've made want to bounce out if thrown too hard... but this thing can be launched at full throttle and will bury itself deep into my red pines. This is the first time I've seen evidence that throwing axes could have been effectively used in combat.
The haft was carved from an osage orange stave.. with some natural features left in. This stave was split for bow making purposes and will be nearly impossible to break.
Hope you enjoy.…
