The project began a number of years ago just after we made the original UK Penknife Knife. The UK was designed and built to meet a new legal requirement for carry knives in the UK. We then made a small run of a smiliar knife to try to meet the new legal carry laws for Denmark. The UKDK was a UK PK with a shorter blade and a small hole with a large chamfer. Unfortunately, the UKDK was too easily opened with one hand so the project was considered a fail.
In March of 2011 at the IWA show in Germany, I spoke with Jesper Voxnes and Jens Anso about their designing a legal carry knife for Denmark. Since they were both custom knife makers living in Denmark, I felt we would have the best chance of success. At the Blade show in 2011, Jesper and Jens brought a design to me with a plastic model and we began to develop and refine the design for production. They suggested the name "Pingo" as it was the nickname of the heir to the Danish throne.
The knife is quite nice and I've carried one daily for weeks. We now have 5 pieces in or on the way to Denmark for knife afi's there to discuss legality with the authorities. We're aweaiting results of that inquiry. The knives will begin shipping shortly as they are in Golden now and going through QC.
