VERY good question !
I used to make friction folders without the titanium liner. The G10 is strong enough for the job. Only downside is that you can't use screws that way. You have to glue the handles to the spacer and/or use a pin (like on fixed blades)
This time, I wanted to make them in a way that you can take them apart. So, I needed a metal liner. I used titanium because it is cool.
I only use one, because:
1. it's kina like a personal thing on my knives. I mostly make framelocks, and those are assymetric. (which I love)
2. you don't need the second titanium liner. It would simply be for your viewing pleasure
3. The goal of this friction folder was, to make a cheap knife, so that people can have a custom folder without having to pay 300 euro. Making only one liner saves half the titanium, I only need half the grinding belts to profile it, and It saves me a lot of time. I can sell these friction folders for 100 euro like they are. If I have to make a second titanium liner, pricing would go up considerably.
And thank you guys VERY much for the nice comments.
