What I am going to try to attempt to pull off is a Scarab with a slightly modified blade, a compound grind with some other goodies on the blade. The handle is going to be all titanium with lots of machining. It will also feature a very special E-Lock and before I forget: it is going to be a full auto. But I don't want to spoil the excitement so I am not going to say what else I have planned for the knife...

So there will be no goofing off for the next few days

Like for the fixed blade Build-Off this is going to have a lot of photos, probably even more.

While the handles were together in the reaming process, I went ahead and profiled the handle to 400 grit and after that I have lapped the flats again by hand


Here I am hand lapping a washer to make sure it is absolutely flat and parallel

Time to start the machining! About 2/3 of the handle is machined away



This is before I do my final cleaning and lapping on the inside of the handle. I want to make sure that all bumps or grooves are removed and it is absolutely flat. This is all done by hand with stones, sand paper and flat blocks

Off to a good start. After my therapy I am feeling really strong today

The handle materials have been drilled and counterbored for the 4 screws and profiled flush with the frame

Now I am making the pivot washers. This is stainless steel Damascus.



The washers are off the lathe; it is time for the milling.

I am going to start machining the slot for the E-Lock mechanism. It is not an easy mechanism to make and it is time consuming.

The machining is done for the rocker. How do you like the little chamfer around the slot? I have never done that before, looks nice.

This was last night after a long hard day. I treated myself to a lot of calories



I am finding center on a rotary table with a .0001 indicator

If you noticed I cleaned and polished each set of grooves separately. This was to maintain a crisp definition of the machining. It is a longer process but it is well worth it. In the photo I am doing the final polishing on the edge, the facets, the grooves with several different wheels and compounds.



Here I am lapping the flats with a 1200 grit paper. That will be the final finish for the flat surface.



The final result is a two tone, mirror and satin finish. Something to keep in mind: Each groove is deeper than the one next to it; so there is a sculpted effect on the handle.




The handles took longer than I expected and threw me way behind but the end result was well worth it.

Je n'aime pas 99% de ce qu'il fait mais entre les surins, les montres et les stylos, il sait se servir de ses mains le monsieur. Impressionnant.

Alors heu... juste pour faire une mise au point... oui c'est du Elishewitz, donc c'est du lourd, du chargé, on aime ou pas.
C'est pas le but de ce thread de montrer un couteau et de donner son avis dessus à tour de bras, sinon je l'aurais pas placer ici.
Je montre juste le processus de fabrication nécessaire pour un truc pareil. C'est tout.
