Fala, meu! I have´t been at Parati yet - as a matter of fact, it´s been almost 20 years since my last trip to Rio. The large towns can be very violent depending on were you are, but places like mine are still calm enough, though not like they used to be when I was a child. Not really different from most everywhere, I guess, and some "street awareness" is always helpfull.
Here is another pic of the folder I have posted, after I heat colored the pivot screw so it matches the brass frame and pins, after Michel´s suggestiom.

Started working on this one this week but have been unable to finish it yet.
It has a 2 1/4" long 1070 steel blade and a very confortable ipe wood andle with brass liner.
The blade was made so your finger grips it very forward in relation to the pivot pin, making for a very safe grip and perfect for precision work. Handlin it is just like having a small fixed blade in your hands.
By now, the blade is ready for heat treatment - with a Scand style grind - and the handle as already been finished and I hope to post more pics tomorrow when I get new batteries for the camera.

Here is the finised piece. Overall, very nice in the hand and solid little folder that seems like a fixed blade when you hold it. Besides the pivot placement, it also has the blade tail lightly offset, so it keeps the blade open in a very secure manner, but without locking in any way - this is a concept I am going to explore in the next knives I make, but it only works on metal lined knives as I think it would put too much stress on a linerless wood handle, either cracking it or wearing away the wood on the contact points.

here are two different interpretations of the tanto theme I have been working on.The inspiration for these knives came from the Nealys and Polkowskis I have seen and admired over the years.

The top one is 8 1/8 long with a 4 3/8" blade and cord wrapped ray skin handle ( still haven´t done the soaking on it due to the bad weather, wich is also responsible for these crappy pics!). The cord on this handle was supplied by knifemaker Pohan Leu.

The botton one is 7 5/8" long with a 4" blade. Its handle is made of 1/8" thick textured celeron slabs - a Brazilian version of micarta, very tough rust colored stuff, with stainless pins. This knife is very compact and slim and the textured handle makes it very safe to grip.

Both are 1/8" thick 1070 steel with chisel ground and hand rubbed blades.

Going back to the higonokami theme, here is one I finished recently. It´s blade is 1070 steel, hand rubbed on te flats, with a light etching, and with a long forged tab on the back, left with the forged texture.. The handle is brass, mirror polished on the edges and left with a coarse longitudinal polish on the sides. and the pivot screw has been heat colored to contrast with it slightly.
I wanted to make something that resembled more the originals in construction and this is the result. Let me know how you like it!

Very nice, pure, sober and elegant, Ivan thup
I like the wood on the background as well, nice contrast with the knife.
Maybe some pictures of the knife shut ?

This has been a very busy week and I haven't had much time for the foruns, nor for the shop, but managed to finish these two knives, model 7 in the Simplicity series.
In fact, they are my version of a full tang Scandi knife, with Scandi ground 1070 steel blades of around 3 1/2" and handles made of maple (top) and ipe (botton), with black spacers and stainless hardware.
Like all knives in this series, they are fun to make and very handy and will receive leather sheathes very soon.
Let me know how you like tem!

Long time no post, buddies!
Since I opened the bar in February my production has suffered some and I only started to spend a reasonable ammount of time in the shop in the second half of the year. Here are some of my recent projects, starting by the Rio Tatu line of camp knives I am making, wich are affordable, tough knives I make as a sideline and hope to start a semi-custom line one day. By now, they are entirelly handmade.

Image

The botton knife is my T01 model, in 3/16" 5160 steel, with a 5" long flat ground blade and black/green G-10 handle slabs
The top one is a proto slightly different from the final T01, with a 6" blade and aroeira wood handle.
