De toute façon, j'ai décidé de faire un billet simple pour mon premier essai. Juste 7 couches (3 d'un, 4 d'une autre - 15n20 et quelque chose) sans torsion, empiler ou autre manipulation. L'idée de faire un simple couteau comme celui-ci était en fait d'une lame en Tacol (est-il un membre ici?)
La moitié (ish) de celui-ci ressemblait à ça jusqu'à il ya quelques jours:
L'idée est qu'il s'agit d'un Necker nue pour montrer tout le métal. Il existe des «puits» Certains font un peu partout, mais je les aime. J'avais mis une mouture convexe lourd, mais n'était pas satisfait de la façon dont il allait montrer les couches (ou non, selon le cas est)
J'ai récemment acheté une bulle plat de broyage gabarit de Fred Rowe et j'apprends à moudre à plat, je pensais que ce serait une mouture idéale pour voir les couches de meilleure qualité sur ce couteau.
Encore beaucoup à faire sur elle, mais je ne pouvais pas résister à contrôler la façon dont le modèle est en cours avec une gravure de lumière dans un café:
Je pense que je vais très fraiser les trous pour essayer d'obtenir des couches montrant par là aussi.

I made my first piece of damascus a few years ago and decided that the resulting pieces of work from it would be kept for me. Of course, that has meant that I have not finished any of it into a final knife yet because any knives for me always come second to customer's knives, despite having done more damascus bits.
So anyway, I decided to do a simple billet for my first try. Just 7 layers (3 of one, 4 of another - 15n20 & something) with no twisting, stacking or other manipulation. The idea to do a simple knife like this was actually from a blade by Tacol (is he a member here?)
Half(ish) of it looked like this up until a few days ago:
The idea is for it to be a naked necker to show off all the metal. There are some forge 'pits' all over, but I like them. I had put a heavy convex grind on but wasn't happy with the way it was going to show off the layers (or not, as the case is)
I recently bought a flat grinding bubble jig from Fred Rowe and I am learning to flat grind, I thought it would be an ideal grind to show the layers better on this knife.
Still more to do on it but I couldn't resist checking how the pattern was going with a light etch in some coffee:
I think I'm going to heavily countersink the holes to try and get some layers showing through there as well.
