This one was ordered to be a wedding gift. I should have posted it before but I forgot to upload the pics.
Although it looks smaller in the pics, the blade is around 8" long, made of 3mm thick 1070 steel, and it was hand rubbed.
The back of the alde has the traditional hollow grind face on its entire extension - the first time I tried it and it was a pain in the neck to finish.
The handle is red caviúna, a very nice local wood, with an ox horn bolster. The entire handle unit is press fit to the blade and can be removed as a single piece, although I don´t build my handles exactly like the traditional Japanese ones.
I just got an order for another like this one, but with a 10" 52100 blade this time. I realli like to make kitchen knives, especially the Japanese style, because these are probably the custom fixed blades that see more action, and wish I had more orders to justify making more of them.
Let me know how you like it!
